September 2019, David Knight and myself moved from North Yorkshire to Cliff on the Isle of Lewis, which is the most North Westerly point of the UK.
This 90cm x 114cm charcoal and graphite drawing is of the most beautifully crafted cairn, sitting on the ridge above Cliff. It is a tower of dry stone walling balanced on top of two boulders, leaning with decades of wind and crawling with lichen.
This drawing is part of the Spring exhibition at Studio Vault, Settle, North Yorkshire.

These are mixed media paintings measuring 60cm x 60cm.
The clear light, vibrant natural colours and textures of the ancient Lewisian Gneiss rock, contrasting with the celadon colour of the Atlantic Ocean, which is due to the Gulf Stream.
Miles of open space, tranquility and peaceful time to just walk and paint in, weather permitting of course. The wind is stimulatingly powerful, the rain can be horizontal, four seasons can come and go in an afternoon, but we work with it and make the most of the conditions when we can. So much inspiration.
